Blue lines
Offside: both skates over before the whole puck = whistle. The puck carrier may lead it in.
Delayed offside
Arm up at the line: attackers must touch the blue line, or the defense clears it.
Center line
Icing: shot from your own half, past the far goal line, untouched. Called at once (no race).
No icing when
shorthanded · off a faceoff · opponent touched it or could have played it · goalie plays it.
Hand pass
Only allowed when both players are in their own defending zone.
Whistle at once
Helmet comes off · puck on top of the net (since 2025-26).
Faceoffs
Goal: center. Icing: the icing team's end. Penalties leaving a team short: that team's end.

The box NFHS rules · plain words

Minor
2:00, team plays short. A goal against ends it.
Major
5:00 in full. Two in a game = game misconduct.
Misconduct
10:00 for the player; a sub goes on, team not short.
Game disq.
Out for the game plus the next game. Fighting is always one.
5 penalties
One player, one game = game misconduct.
Fewest on ice
4 counting the goalie. A third penalty waits.
Arm up
Delayed penalty: whistle when the fouling team gains control.
Penalty shot
Breakaway fouled from behind; one shot from center.
Overtime
NFHS book: up to 8:00 sudden victory, then a tie. States may differ.
